The Council regulates the health professions in the country in aspects pertaining to registration, education and training, professional conduct and ethical behavior.
The Professional Boards are co-ordinating bodies for all the allied healthcare practitioners registered with the Council. The respective advisory boards that are established for a specific profession, deal with any matters relating to a specific profession. These boards consist of members appointed by their fellow practitioners but can also be nominated on the basis of their expertise.
Physiotherapy also known as Physical Therapy is the branch of medical/health science specifically with a general role of promoting health and the prevention of health related problems by means of education and promoting self-care of individuals and communities. This can extend to advising and teaching associated careers and healthcare professionals in order to provide a coherent approach, which maximizes the individual’s independence.

Non Physician Anaesthetists are members of the anaesthetic care team, trained both in the underlying scientific and medical knowledge pertinent to anaesthesia, and in the skills of administering anaesthesia.
Biomedical laboratory Science also known as Medical Laboratory Science (Laboratory Medicine) is the branch of medical science specifically concerned with the laboratory diagnosis and monitoring of disease. Only graduates from biomedical science programmes which are accredited and/or approved by the RAHPC are eligible to register as biomedical laboratory practitioners without undertaking further education.
A Clinical officer is a legally recognized Health Professional who is licensed to perform independently general medical duties such as diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury in all age group, ordering and interpreting medical tests, performing routine medical and minor surgical procedures. The clinical role of Clinical Officers includes primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings. Professional competencies for clinical officers include the effective and appropriate application of medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. Patient-centered, clinical officer’s practice reflects a number of overarching themes. These include an unwavering commitment to patient safety, cultural competence, quality health care, lifelong learning, and professional growth. Furthermore, the profession’s dedication to the physician-Clinical Officer team benefits patients and the larger community. The medical clinical officer comparable to medical assistants may perform health care tasks in any setting authorized by the supervising authority, including physician offices, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other health care institutions.
Emergency Care Practitioners are often the first health care professionals entrusted with the care of the critically ill or injured patient. A career in emergency care is both exciting and demanding, requiring mental alertness and rigorous physical fitness to make life and death decisions in an environment that can be difficult and dangerous.

Medical Imaging previously referred to as Radiography is a unique medical profession that involves both clinical and technical knowledge and skills. It is a field that applies science, arts and technology. The areas of practice and specialty in radiography include diagnostic imaging and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Diagnostic ultrasound, Nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, management, medical physics (radiation protection) and information technology (imaging informatics). These are well spelt out in the roles of the radiological technologist, which are patient care, the use of technology, optimization of radiation dose, clinical responsibility, management, quality assurance and research.

The Rwanda Allied Health Professions Council was established to regulate the Allied Health Professions in the Republic of Rwanda. As part of its mandate to protect the public, the Code of Professional Conduct was developed to set the standards of conduct and behaviour expected of registered allied health practitioners. Allied health practitioners provide a wide range of services to the public in both the health and social care environment and have a duty to promote and protect the health and safety of the patients at all times. The Code of conduct lays down a set of principles for the professional relationships, practice and conduct with respect to users of health professional services and amongst the various healthcare professions.
