Who we are

Rwanda Allied Health Professions Council (RAHPC) is a national regulatory body responsible for the compliance of the rules, honor and dignity of allied health professions in Rwanda. It ensures compliance with the principles of morality, integrity and dedication essential to the practice of health professions and ensures that its Members/Registrants comply with their professional requirements, the laws and regulations governing the health profession.

Our Mission

To establish standards for training, practice, ethics and professionalism within the health professions through compliance, continued professional development, advocacy for enabling environment and enhancing public and stakeholder engagement.

Mandate

The RAHPC is a statutory authority established by the Rwanda Allied Health Professions Law N°46/2012 of 14/01/2013, of the Laws of the Republic of Rwanda, to regulate the practice of Allied Health Professionals in the country. The Council aims at ensuring compliance with the rules, honor and dignity of the health professions, thus offering Rwandans and East Africans the most effective and efficient health care services by guaranteeing that allied health practitioners are highly qualified and that they continuously develop their professions.

Organization Structure

The RAHPC has three organs mainly the National Council Board which is the Supreme organ; The Bureau which is the overseeing organ of Council's affairs and Technical Committees to support some expert activities. For the Council to carry out its mandate, there is a permanent secretariat (Executive Management) that runs on daily basis the Council's operational activities. Given the uniqueness of the RAHPC, there are professional advisory boards that deal with specific professional matters.

The Bureau of the Council

The Bureau of the Council consists of seven elected members of the National Council Board- serving in a voluntary non-executive capacity – who meet regularly to establish Council policy and oversee the affairs of the Council. The number of technical organs is determined by the NCB members and depends on strategic demands.

The Bureau is composed by

  1. Chairperson
  2. Deputy Chairperson,
  3. Registrar and CEO of the Council
  4. Treasurer
  5. Three advisors elected within the National Council Board.

The Bureau of the National Council Board meets for transaction of business at places and at times as may be decided upon by the Bureau, but the bureau shall meet once every three months.

 The Bureau of the National Council Board has the following responsibilities

  1. To do its utmost to ensure the smooth running of the activities of the Council and its Committees;
  2. To put an end to all acts, contracts or Articles of Association to which practitioners of allied health professions are party but which include clauses that undermine the principles of allied health professions ethics.
  3. To report to relevant authorities acts of illegal practices of the profession that come to its knowledge and take disciplinary measures accordingly.
  4. To impose disciplinary sanctions for professional misconduct committed by a practitioner of allied health profession as well as serious misconduct committed outside the course of professional practice but that are likely to undermine the honor and dignity of the profession.
  5. To enforce any disciplinary measure taken by the organs of the Council responsible for the professional ethics.
