CPD

The professionalism, level of education and training of our health care practitioners is of the utmost importance. Health care practitioners are continually learning and adding to their knowledge and skills, allowing them to help the public, keeping them as healthy as possible. They also need to ensure that guidelines, set out by the Council, on the best practices are adhered to at all times.

As a health care practitioner, the process of learning never ends – it may begin with a passion to help others while in school or in university, but there is always so much to learn and minds are continually fuelled, as long as a health care practitioner is in practice, or even long after that.

RAHPC introduced a system of compulsory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) designed to improve overall patient care. The CPD policy requires all allied health professionals registered with RAHPC to earn a prescribed number of 60 CPD Points biennially  by attending RAHPC-approved education initiatives. 

Every practitioner is required to accumulate 30 CPD points per twelve-month period and a minimum of 5 CPD points in ethics, human rights, leadership and management is desirable. Each CPD will be valid for 24 months from the date on which the activity took place (or ended, in the event of post-graduate studies) after which it would lapse, during the validity period of the Practising License. 

Therefore, practitioners should aim to accumulate a balance of a minimum of 60 CPD credits by the end of their second year of practise, and thereafter top-up through additional CPD as each 24 –month validity period expires.
